John Cosmo Clark

Landscape and coastal painter
Clark was a student at the Goldsmiths College School of Art and the Académie Julian, Paris, and after war service with the London and Middlesex Regiments - he was awarded the MC in 1918 - he continued his studies in Paris and London, receiving the Royal Academy gold medal and travelling scholarship for painting in 1921. From 1942 until his retirement in 1963 he was Director of the Royal Industries Bureau, and became a CBE in 1955. Clark produced three works for Lawrence - At a well, a charcoal study, At Akaba, chalk, and the oil painting Stokes' gun class.
