R M [Rose Mary] Young
Writing to Hogarth in 1922 (1), Lawrence remarked that 'So far only Young has refused to sit, & I'm going to put in a white page saying so baldly.' Early the following year he asked the artist Kathleen Scott to undertake this portrait, but the subject was eventually persuaded to sit for his wife, Rose Mary, whom he had married in 1924. The drawing was done in chalk.
